Why professional editing?
By the time you’re ready to publish your manuscript you’ve probably looked over it about a million times – you’ve probably skimmed over that typo or little error every time. Your eyes and mind know what to expect and that makes it harder to catch those little mistakes. Having a second set of eyes look over your work is great, but friends and family don’t give it the attention and focus you get from a professional. This is what we do and we’ll catch those little things you’ve missed or the bigger things your friends or family aren’t willing to point out.
What if I don't agree with your changes?
The changes we suggest are just that – suggestions. We are in no way going to force you to change your manuscript, it is your work, after all. We will, however, give you our best recommendations to improve your manuscript. Whether or not you make the changes is up to you. We want you to be happy though and invite conversation about the editing process and will work with you to explain our suggestions and ultimately, help you perfect your manuscript.
I'm in a rush--can I get my edit back in two days?
We want to ensure that we are doing our best work, and oftentimes just a few days isn’t enough time to do that. Our general timelines are one week for proofread edits and two weeks for detailed edits, depending on length of the manuscript. If you’re in a pinch though, let us know and we’ll see what we can do for you.
How do I submit my manuscript for editing?
Easy! Just head on over to our Contact & Submit tab at the top of the page and fill out our Submission Questionnaire. Or, you can use the button below:
How do you receive payment?
We accept payment through PayPal--it's safe, secure, and easy to use.
How do I get my edits back?
We use Microsoft Word’s Track Changes Function to make all comments. The benefit of this program is that we don’t make any changes to your text itself – you approve each and every change that we suggest. With the Detailed Edit, we also provide an Editor’s Letter, which is a brief overview of the editing process and any specific themes or issues we see you might be having. For those of you who use Google Drive, we would also be open to this as well, simply let us know! (If you are 'old school' and prefer paper [like one of our editors, Natalie], we can arrange this as well).
I don't see the type of edit I'm looking for!
Just because it's not listed here, it doesn't mean that we don't do it. We have edited menus, brochures, websites, promotional material--even professional emails, cover letters, and resumes! If you have something you need edited, but aren't sure we do it, send us an email at info@thecrimsonquill.com with the details.
Additionally, if you want us to edit your manuscript for something specific, let us know on the Submission Questionnaire, or send us an email if it's something super specific.

"Remember the waterfront shack with the sign FRESH FISH SOLD HERE. Of course it's fresh, we're on the ocean. Of course it's for sale, we're not giving it away. Of course it's here, otherwise the sign would be someplace else. The final sign: FISH." - Peggy Noonan
